TDS Tuesday

TDS Tuesday, is a Gears of War 2 multiplayer night on the xbox 360, where a load of the folk on TDS get together on Xbox Live and try to kill each other inbetween fits of laughter. It's not just standard games we play though, and it's not intended for the l33t players to show how cool they are. The entire purpose is just to have a laugh. We have matches, that mostly consist of having friendly fire on, like chainsaws only, frags only, boomshots only etc. These could get boring if it wasn't for the different game modes & maps being mixed up at the same time. My favourite so far is 'Frags only - Guardian - Canals' With friendly fire on, you have to be really careful what you tag, or who you tag. Many a time, we've seen team members kill their own guardian which leads to hell in the lobby afterwards, haha!

I said about l33t players not being the centre of attention and I meant it. It's because of me and Scunny (another lad off of TDS), that they've yet to have a snipes only match, or Boltoks(sp?) for that matter...

There were a fair few funny moments last night but the one that springs to mind most was 'Mortars only - Guardian - Jacinto(sp?)' That game was mayhem. Due to the fact there was some cover, it was agreed that anyone on purposely hiding under shelter, you were allowed to use your shotgun to go get them. Sadly(ok not really, it was hilarious) as 50% of the games do, someone broke the rules. There was only me left on my team, and about 3-4 of them. I was walking away as fast as I could while trying to get some mortar kills at the same time. Unfortunately for me, cef couldn't find a mortar, improvised. In the form of his chainsaw meeting my face. Well... that wasn't cricket was it? Gloves off and all that jazz. I dropped the rules and shotgunned about 4 of them in the face within about a minute in the next round, then called it even (with interest). Sadly there was a mix up of plans in the last round, as they thought we were going to do the same again, and so shotgunned us back, and so all rules were forgot for that round too.

Now, this probably doesn't come across as interesting or funny as it does to me or any of the other TDS folk, but I think it's just one of those 'you had to be there' things. By all means come along, sign up, and join in. You'll soon realise how fun it is.

Oh, and just incase gears isn't your thang. Theres a racing games night on a monday, a racing league night on a wednesday, a shoot-em-up night on a friday, and a Left 4 Dead night on a Saturday. Monday and Friday have rotors of games and so if you don't have one, you can still join in the week after.

The day to day joys of cycling to work.

Well this morning was interesting. Within about 30 seconds of leaving my house, while sitting at the first set of lights round the corner, mine goes green and as I pedal out and turn right, a 'fellow cyclist' jumps their red light skims past the gap between me and the curb and pedals of in a wibbly wobbly mad fashion. Nutter. It wouldn't have been so bad, if his top speed was in any way proportionate to his rate of acceleration. He could pedal like the wind, but apparently his top gear maxed out at about 10mph. I caught him up within about fifty yards and asked why he jumped the light. His excuse was that I should give way to him because he was on a bike too...

Nutter.

Anyway, I rode off and just tried to forget about it, bloody nonchalant cyclists, and concentrated on the rest of my commute. The roads were pretty empty in town. It was a nice change from the exhaust fume filled traffic jams I usually come across. I must have been a bit earlier than normal.

Now my commute consists of me riding down a big hill from my house to the river, then crossing a bridge, and going up another big hill at the other side. The problem is, on the way to work, the hill at the other side is climbed within about 500 yards of the road, as opposed to about 4 miles of the road going the other way. It’s like cycling into a brick wall and I’ve never managed to get up the whole thing without getting off at some point to either rest, or walk a bit of it, as my gears don’t go low enough for me to climb it very well. I have two choices most the time. I can either get out of the saddle and grind my way up it (usual choice), or I can stick it in as low a gear as possible and hope I don’t hit any headwind at all, or else I’ll simply stop, and lose all motivation to get going again, get off, and walk up it with the bike.

Today was different though. On a Tuesday, not the usual day for cycling heroics, and I’ll probably pay for it tomorrow, but I got out that saddle and grinded from start to finish, head down, gritted teeth, and I did it! I got up those 500 yards and I kept going. I was a king, I was the man, I was… fucking knackered! I must have lowered my average speed from about 15mph-5. I just didn’t have it in me to even pick up pace on the flats, or down hill bits (not a lot of them on the second half of the commute either way). Finally got my breath back during a gravel path near the end of my commute, where, because of my skinny road tyres, I have to get off and walk with the bike, or there is a great probability that I’ll faceplant the nice collection of orange stones under foot. This meant that at least when I got to work; I wasn’t a quivering breathless wreck.

Oh how I can’t wait for this supposed extra fitness to come along from all this.

Bringing you all up to speed.

'ello again.

Right, where was I? Oh yes.

Lots of things going on and lots of things to come. Well, at the moment, I'm busy talking to lots of people at Aberdeen College checking my options, because, although I'd planned on doing a HND part time while working, there has been an enouncement of redundancies made at work, which I am apart of, and find out if my job which is currently 'at risk' will be made redundant or kept at some point soon. Ontop of this, I'm going to be sending out CVs very soon, just incase. If I can get a company to pay me through college, even better!

Last week, I come a cropper when cycling to work and left myself with a lovely few cuts and bruises and a very sore thigh & neck to go with them. Bike was ok though, thankfully. Gears went a bit mental but a quick addjustment here and there, and they're good as new!

Thats the bad stuff out the way. Now for the good stuff. I'm getting married at the end of October, so we're (me & my fiancee) busy finalising details & buying the last bits and bobs (including our rings, erk!)

With a wedding comes a honeymoon, which we're still trying to decide on (must do this soon!), and of course a stag do! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!... One which I haven't really arranged yet. Ooops.

In between all this, when I have any spare time, I'll be either on my bike, or on my xbox, so I'm not sure when I'll find time for this, but we'll see.

Well, I think that about brings us up to date. I can now carry out day to day* ranting & other general blogging activities.

*not strictly true. Could be 7 times a day, or once a month. Nobody knows...

P.S. I have terrible spelling & grammar, so excuse the 9 mile long sentances and made up words.

...and on the first day, there was blogging.

Well, I got sick of running out of characters on twitter, so I've made my own blog. I have no idea how active this will be, only time will tell. I'll still be using twitter, but instead of posting about 9 tweets in a row, I'll simply link to this with a new update.

Got a lot coming up at the minute, so this may end up with more updates or less, depending on if I can find time to share my life by the medium of blogging.

I'll go into more detail later on, once I've faffed about with all the options.

Ciao.
